New Delhi: Google is reportedly planning to enter the movie streaming business with a new service that is likely to take on the popular Netflix.
Netflix currently enjoys absolute popularity in the content-streaming market and witnessed a surge in shares by more than 80 per cent by far in this year. With its clear leadership in content-streaming market, the said plan is unlikely to be a cause of concern for Netflix.
However, it could be an interesting move for market watchers and consumers alike. A report on BGR notes that a Google+ user Hugo Seijas posted a screenshot of a Google Opinion Rewards survey which contained one particular question: “Do you have a Google monthly movie pass?”
Currently, there isn’t any such service offered by the search giant. Although there is no official word on any plans of bringing a streaming service, the survey question does indicate a similar possibility.
With its recently concluded developers conference, we have only been able to witness a focus on the new Android M operating system and Photos app. However, with a large catalogue of movies in its Play Store and its YouTube already enjoying a wider share of the video market, a venture into the streaming market might turn out to be more than welcome.
