New Delhi: Aimed at giving a better ad-free user experience, Apple has added the ability to block ads on Safari browser for its iPhones and iPads that will run the latest iOS 9 version.

This little but crucial detail was not highlighted at its recent WWDC 2015 event where only major improvements and additions like the split-screen mode and a News App were discussed.

A report on The Verge notes that Apple engineer Ricky Mondello first revealed the change and the company is planning to provide more details to the developers.

This ability will allow iOS developers to create extensions for Safari that block cookies, images, resources, pop-ups, and other web content.

However, this move is viewed as worrisome by some analysts who suggest that web publishers would be affected by this change who are struggling to generate digital advertising revenue through mobile audiences.

Apple’s new News App will also be supported by ads, meaning publishers may have to opt-in when adblocking software inevitably becomes popular in the App Store.
