Google Maps today announced a new real-time location sharing feature which will be available for both Android and iOS users. Users will be able to share their real-time location with anyone and the people they share with will be able to see the location on Android, iPhone, mobile web, and desktop.

To share the location, a user can simply open the side menu or tap the blue dot that represents the user’s current location. Tap “Share location” and then select who to share with and how long to share—and the sharing begins.

Now users can share real-time location with their Google contacts, or even with friends and family by sending a link on any of the messenger apps.

While sharing one’s location, the recipients will see the user on their map and the user will see an icon above the compass on his/ her own map reminding the user about the active location sharing.

Location sharing can be stopped by the user as and when required.

This makes it easier for people to know about the expected arrival time and the current location of the other person. Location sharing automatically ends when the user arrives at the destination.
