As a ChatGPT user, you would be aware that each conversation is new because the chatbot can’t retain details you would prefer it to follow or a style you want it to remember, ultimately wasting your time from repeating information in new conversations.
However, this is all set to change soon, as OpenAI has announced that it is testing the ability for ChatGPT to remember things. “We’re testing memory with ChatGPT. Remembering things you discuss across all chats saves you from having to repeat information and makes future conversations more helpful,” the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence giant said.
It added that users can “explicitly tell it to remember something” and even ask it what it remembers. Plus, if you don’t want it to remember anything, you can simply tell it to “forget conversationally or through settings” or choose to turn it off entirely.
Simply put, you can have ChatGPT remember things like details about you or your family, such as if you like a particular animal. For example, if you own a business and want it to remember, or even something like formatting options for notes.
When Is It Rolling Out?
OpenAI says that it will be rolling out the feature for a “small portion” of ChatGPT free and Plus users starting this week. It isn’t clear when the company would open the broader rollout, wherein all users can have access to it.
