Amazon Starts Prime Video Service, Netflix Competitor, in India
Users had been eagerly waiting for the launch ever since Amazon Prime was unveiled in India in July.

Months after launching Amazon Prime service for Indian customers, the e-Commerce site on December 14 launched Amazon Prime Video - a video on demand streaming service. Amazon Prime customers can start using the app immediately.Read more: Amazon Launches Prime Service in India at Rs 499 a Year

Users who have already signed in on the Amazon app on their Android devices do not need to sign in to the Amazon Prime Video app; they can install and start using the service right away. Amazon has launched the app for both Android and iOS.

Amazon India has also picked up entire existing libraries of production houses that is likely to give them an edge over Netflix that was facing flak for featuring lacklustre content. The company has said that most of its content will be original. Its library would include Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent among others.

It poses competition for Netflix as subscribers will have access to the catalogue of films and TV shows at Rs 42/month (Amazon Prime membership costs Rs 499/year in India).
