Adobe Photoshop Now Available Natively for Apple M1-Powered Macs, App for iPad Gets New Features

Adobe’s highly popular photo editing tool Photoshop is now available natively for Apple M1-powered Macs. Until now, the beta version of Photoshop was available on M1-powered devices, though users could access the native version of Adobe Lightroom. In a statement, the company claims that a wide range of features on Photoshop for Apple M1 Macs appeared to run faster during internal tests. The company adds that compute-heavy operations like Content-Aware Fill, Select Subject, and other features ran 1.5X faster compared to other versions.

There are still some features on Adobe Photoshop such as ‘Invite to Edit Cloud Documents’ and ‘Preset Syncing’ that are yet to be tested. Adobe promises to improve the app’s performance for Apple M1-powered MacBook Air 13, MacBook Pro 13, Mac Mini, and future Macs with the custom ARM-based Silicon chip. Users can download the desktop app from Apple App Store on the Mac or the company’s website.

Meanwhile, Adobe Photoshop for Apple iPad models is getting an update that brings features such as Cloud Documents Version History to let users browse file history auto-saved on the cloud. Users can revert to changes from the last 60 days. The iPad app from Adobe is also getting the ability to store files locally or access them offline. Adobe Photoshop’s Camera Raw Plugin is getting a ‘Super Resolution’ feature with the new update that allows users to improve the image quality with just one click. Adobe explains that Super Resolution uses an advanced machine learning model to even fix pixelated areas in enlarged photos.

The company adds that the feature “intelligently” enlarges photos while maintaining clean edges and preserving important details. It will soon be available in Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. Adobe had also rolled out the beta version of Premier Pro for Apple M1 Macs in December 2020. The desktop app includes the core functionalities as well as some optimisations for the custom processor.
