New Delhi: Back in the 80s, this pellet-chomping arcade game was a sensation. 35 years later, classic game lovers swear by the iconic Pac-Man. Launched in Japan on May 22, 1980, the game was a charming relief from arcade games dominated by alien shooting and sports games.

Toru Iwatani, designer of the game’s character, has said that his goal was to bring video games to a wider audience, specifically women. The maze-like levels and colorful characters were a welcome change from the usual arcade games and became a sensation instantly.

As the simple but addictive game completes 35 years, here are the three ways you can play the game right now for free:

1. Google Doodle: Type in ‘Pac-Man’ in the Google search bar and the first result is an entry to the game. The doodle was first released on the game’s 30th anniversary and is functional even today. The maze surrounds the Google logo and lets you play the chomping game for free.

2. Pac-Man Lite: Celebrating the 35th anniversary, Bandai Namco, the game’s creator is offering the game for free on iOS. It includes a limited version of the game and for one week you also get to enjoy the multiplayer mode with new mazes for a chance to win freebies from the creator. For more freebies, read the app’s description. You can download the game from Apple App Store.

3. Pac-Man +Tournaments: The Android app offers new mazes mode and lets you compete against other players around the world in tournaments. In some modes the classic Pac-Man ghosts are replaced with Android robots. You can download it from the Google Play Store.
