Guwahati: The Aam Aadmi ka Sipahi, a programme by Youth Congress for the common people to let them know about the UPA government schemes for their welfare, was launched on Saturday for the first time in the country by AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati.
"I have decided to launch the Aam Aadmi ka Sipahiprogramme here because the Youth Congress and the NSUI here are very strong and are popular among the masses," Gandhi said at the launch of the programme at
the Sarusajai Sports Complex.
Rahul said a membership drive has been launched to recruit 20 lakh youths across the country to be sent to villages to work for villagers and the poor.
"They will bring the Youth Congress and the NSUI into focus and they will inform villages under the Aam Aadmi ka Sipahi programme about government schemes such as NREGA and others," Gandhi said.
The Youth Congress' work for the common people had started from Punjab and would be spread to the rest of the country, Gandhi earlier said, addressing APCC office bearers at Rajiv Bhavan, the Congress headquarters here.
"There is a membership of three-and-a-half lakh in Punjab," Rahul said.
