New Delhi: The Assembly election campaign in Punjab will ride on a new high with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi campaigning in the state for two days each.
AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwiwedi announced that the PM will extend his support to the Congress in the campaign on February 5 and 6 and attend two meetings per day. Sonia, on the other hand, will be in the state from February 7 to 10.
With the Congress aware of the growing disillusionment in the state with Chief Minister Amrinder Singh, the Prime Minister seems to be the party's best bet to win the elections.
Once in Punjab, Singh’s campaign managers will stress that he belongs to the state and understands the special needs. Also, that being an economist himself, he knows what policies to frame for the state's agrarian economy.
With intense infighting and an anti-incumbancy factor, the party hopes that India's most famous blue turban does the magic.
