New Delhi: The opposition against Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is growing and so are the demands for her resignation. BJP is also a divided house over Raje after her alleged links with former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi surfaced.
The BJP has limited options when it comes to acting against Raje. If the party acts against her and removes her as the Chief Minister, it will have to scout for a leader to replace her. Also, if the party acts against her, it may lose the support of a number of MLAs in Rajasthan Assembly.
Sources say that the Rajasthan Chief Minister met her close aide and state cabinet minister Rajendra Rathore in Jaipur and he is likely to travel to the national capital following the meeting. It is being said that Raje is gauging the mood of her MLAs in the state. Rathore is expected to meet the central leadership of the BJP ahead of Raje's visit to Delhi.
Another big problem for the party is that if it acts against her, in a cascading effect External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani will also have to be sacked. While Sushma Swaraj has been accused of going out of the way to help Lalit Modi obtain his visa to the United Kingdom, Smriti Irrani has been accused of discrepancy in her educational qualification.
However, if the BJP doesn’t act against its leaders, it will be a mammoth task for it to sail through the Monsoon Session of Parliament which begins on July 21. With allegations against BJP leaders coming just a few days ahead before Parliament resumes, there are high chances that the session could be a complete washout.
