SP workers said that they washed Malviya's statue with Ganga water to purify it as Modi had touched it.
Varanasi: BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi filed his nomination on Thursday from Varanasi. But soon after his nomination was filed, Samajwadi Party activists washed and 'purified' the statue of Madan Mohan Malviya, which was garlanded by Modi, using water from Ganga soon after he left to file his nomination paper.
SP workers said that they washed Malviya's statue to purify it as Modi had touched it. They said that Modi is a communal person.
While Varanasi is seen as a BJP bastion, Modi faces competition from Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Congress candidate Ajay Rai.
