BJP gave ticket to its former chief ministers Nityanand Swami and Bhagat Singh Koshiyari from Uttarakhand.

New Delhi: As the newly named state Uttarakhand gears up for the Assembly elections, there is good news for former chief ministers Nityanand Swami and Bhagat Singh Koshiyari.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday gave a ticket to the two leaders of Uttarakhand.

The party also announced 52 candidates, most of them sitting MLAs, for the hill state.

India’s shooting sensation Jaspal Rana, did not figure in the list of the BJPs nominees for the Uttarakhand polls.

Rana was tipped to make his electoral debut in the forthcoming state elections following the honour he received from party elders in Lucknow last month.

The party's central election committee withheld the candidacy of its sitting MLA, Malchander from Purola as it renominated 18 of its other legislators as party candidates for the state election.

It fielded Swamy from Lakshman chowk in the Dehradun district and Koshiyari from Kapkot in Bageshwar.

The BJP's election committee is scheduled to meet on January 23 again to decide other candidates for the state.

Asked about Rana's nomination, news agency PTI quoted BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad as saying that the gold medalist sportsman has been offered a ticket.
