Ghaziabad: Police on Monday seized Rs 13.11 crore unaccounted cash from three places in Ghaziabad district. Rs 12.23 crore cash was seized from a security van at link road police station area. The money, which was being carried to ICICI bank from SIPL company, was handed over to Income Tax commissioner but the van driver could not produce the details before the I-T authorities, SSP Raghubir Lal said.

Rs 68 lakh cash was seized from a car near Massoori and Rs 20 lakh was seized in Indirapuram, he said.

Meanwhile, in view of the Election Commission banning transport of unaccounted cash of over Rs one lakh in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, the district authorities have advised traders of the area to carry evidences and detailed account of the cash being moved around in the district.

According to district magistrate Shashi Bhushan, the traders, who are carrying cashes for their business dealings, must have the account details, otherwise all unaccounted money will be seized during the election period.

Annoyed with the EC directives, several traders and businessmen of the area have raised their voice against the random checking of vehicles as they said it was hampering their business.
