Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday will be offering gold jewellery worth Rs 5 crore to Lord Venkateswara Swamy at Tirumala as a thanksgiving for the fulfilling of Telangana’s statehood dream.
The Chief Minister will present 14.20 kg Saligram Haram golden necklace costing about Rs 3.70 crore and 4.65 kg Kanta Abharanam costing Rs 1.20 crore.
The Chief Minister had vowed to present gold ornaments to various deities if a separate state of Telangana was achieved.
Apart from Rs 5 crore for Lord Venkateshwara Swamy, Rs 59 lakh was sanctioned for other deities. During this visit, the chief minister will also visit Padmavathi Ammavaru Temple and present a gold nose ring to the Goddess.
In October 2016, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao presented Rs 3.5 crore worth golden crown weighing 11.7 kg to Goddess Bhadrakali in Warangal.
In coming days, he is expected to visit Veerabhadra Swamy temple in Warangal to present "Golden Moustaches" to Lord.
The opposition had criticised the move when government orders were issued, raising questions on spending crores from state exchequer for fulfilling a personal pledge.
The Chief Minister will be travelling on a special flight accompanied by family members and many Cabinet ministers. Massive security arrangements have been made for their visit.
KCR's First Visit to Tirumala after Bifurcation
This will be the first visit of Chief Minister to Tirumala after bifurcation.
Supporters of the leader made preparations for a grand welcome. Hoardings and poster could be seen at many places in the temple town.
However, the hoardings were brought down by the district administration in view of the moral code of conduct in place because of scheduled Legislative Council elections.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had visited Andhra Pradesh during the inauguration of a new capital city in Amaravati.
During Telangana's agitation movement, the state saw a massive protest against the leader.
