Bengaluru: It’s a new controversy every day for actor-turned-Congress leader Ramya aka Divya Spandana in poll-bound Karnataka.

With the controversy over her ‘POT’ response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘TOP’ comment yet to die down, Ramya has been accused of promoting the creation of fake social media profiles.

Ramya, who heads the Congress’ Social Media and Digital department, is accused of telling Karnataka Congress social media volunteers to create multiple accounts to take on the BJP.

A short video in which Ramya is addressing the party volunteers has been leaked to the media by unidentified persons. Pro-BJP website Postcard carried the video, accusing Ramya of telling her party workers to have “fake accounts”. In the leaked video clip, Ramya can be heard saying in Kannada that “you can have multiple social media accounts. Nothing wrong in it”.

Her BJP counterpart Amit Malaviya has sought a response from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Denying the allegations, Ramya has tweeted claiming that the BJP was circulating an “edited version” of the video.

Ramya, who is credited with energising the Congress social media engagements, has been in the news in her home state for the past one week. A week ago, during the formal launch of state Congress’ poll campaign, she was reportedly miffed over seating arrangements. She later called it a “media hogwash”.

On Tuesday she took on Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, asking him to come out clean on certain issues.

“A frustrated BJP has planted some moles in the Congress. We will careful in the future,” a Karnataka Congress social media volunteer told News18.
