‘Separatism’: BJP Hits Out At Mamata Banerjee Over ‘Bengal's Relations With India Should Be Good’ Remark

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “Bengal’s relations with India” remark at TMC’s Shaheed Diwas rally did not go well with BJP leaders. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla asked if Bengal was a “separate nation” according to the TMC supremo.

In TMC’s Shaheed Diwas rally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I want that Bengal’s relations with India should be good. You (Akhilesh Yadav) came here, I thank you. I would like to congratulate the Samajwadi Party because the game you have shown in Uttar Pradesh… I agree with you that the government that has been brought to power in Delhi by appointing agencies, by appointing Election Commission, that government is not stable, that government can go anytime …”

Reacting to her speech, the BJP leader took to microblogging site X and wrote, “Is Bengal a separate nation according to her or an integral part of Bharat! Left wants a foreign secretary for Kerala! TMC sows seeds of separatism in the name

Of appeasement. What does INDI ALLIANCE WANT? balkanisation of Bharat? Some people divide India on caste, language and religion…”

BJP leader Amit Malviya also stressed that West Bengal is an “inalienable part of India” and commented that “this kind of seditious language doesn’t behove a sitting Chief Minister”.

“Mamata Banerjee should know that West Bengal is an inalienable part of India. Millions of revolutionaries have sacrificed their blood to secure a homeland for Hindu Bengalis. This kind of seditious language doesn’t behove a sitting Chief Minister. She must not underestimate the power of the Indian state and anger of the people of Bengal. Her dream of becoming Suhrawardy 2.0 will remain a dream, for all times to come,” Malviya wrote in an X post.

Mamata Banerjee further said the TMC-led state government would provide shelter to people from violence-hit Bangladesh “if they come knocking on our doors”.

“I cannot speak anything about Bangladesh as it is another country. The Indian government will speak about that. But if helpless people (from Bangladesh) knock on Bengal’s door, we will give them shelter. There is a resolution of the UN. Neighbours will respect refugees,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Amit Malviya hit out at the TMC supremo asking “who gave Mamata Banerjee the authority to welcome anyone in India?”

Malviya took to social media site X and wrote, “Odd days – We will not allow Hindu refugees, who came to India to escape religious persecution, to apply for citizenship under CAA and get their legitimate rights. If they insist, we will ask illegal Rohingyas, who vote for the TMC, to burn trains, block roads and kill people.

Even days – Bangladeshis are welcome to India.

Who gave Mamata Banerjee the authority to welcome anyone in India? Immigration and citizenship are exclusively in the Center’s domain. The States have no locus-standi.

TMC spokesperson Riju Dutta responded sharply to Malviya’s remarks and asked him to “not get into matters which are beyond his payroll and capabilities”.

“These are sensitive issues, Amit! Don’t try to get into matters which are beyond your payroll and capabilities. Stick to trolling people, peddling lies and deciding what kind of porn suits your taste which you have been doing openly on social platforms in the past,” Dutta wrote in an X post.
