Randeep Singh Surjewala is a member of Congress and a sitting MLA from Kaithal seat in Haryana . He held water supply and sanitation, parliamentary affairs, electronics and information technology, science and technology and public works as a minister in Haryana cabinet. In 2005, he was given the responsibility of Transport and Parliamentary Affairs and thus became the youngest minister in Haryana. He defeated Om Prakash Chautala in 1996 and 2005. Currently, Surjewala is one of the official spokespersons of Indian National Congress party.

In the 2009, Randeep Singh Surjewala of INC won in this seat by defeating the INLD candidate by a margin of 22502 votes which was 19.27% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 51.29% in 2009 in the seat.
