Party to decide new DMK chief, says Karuna
Tired of the battle between sons, Karunanidhi does not want to choose between sons.

Chennai: The DMK patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in an interview to a Tamil magazine said that the party will decide who will be the next leader. With that he has distanced himself from the controversy.

Karunanidhi's elder son MK Azhagiri had revived the DMK family war recently saying, he would not accept anyone else as the leader of the party, other than his father.

This went against the compromise formula that has been worked out by the family. Stalin who at present holds the post of Deputy Chief Minister, was to head the government in the state, while Azhagiri was to focus on politics at the Centre.

"In a democracy, everyone has a right to choose their leader. The DMK will decide," said Karunanidhi. "..who'll be the next leader. Even I don't have that right. Stalin and Alagiri don't have any problems. Both know that if they fight, I'll be the one who will get hurt."
