Categorically denying all reports of any possible support to Peoples Democratic Party, National Conference chief Omar Abdullah said that no offers have been extended to the former for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.
"No offers have been made from NC to PDP and none of our proposals been discounted by the PDP. No such possibility is being contemplated," Omar Abdullah clarified.
Abdullah made the statement in the wake of political upheaval in the state after the death of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Sayeed. The former J&K chief minister said that the NC had only made the offer for extending support once in February 2015 before government formation but no such offers have been made anytime after that.
Reports suggest that PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is playing hardball with alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As per sources, Mehbooba Mufti wants to change the terms of engagement and gain upper hand in the coalition.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi's meeting with Mehbooba Mufti after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had raised eyebrows over a possible alliance of the Congress with the PDP. There were also reports that the NC had made an offer to PDP for government formation. However, it is being said that PDP is using the offers just to negotiate with the BJP.
Mehbooba Mufti's swearing in is expected next week.
