No directions to move Telangana resolution: Rosaiah
Rosaiah says no directions have been received from the Centre yet.

Hyderabad: Giving a new twist to the row over a separate Telangana state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah said on Friday that he had not received any directions from the Central Government to move a resolution in the state Assembly.

Facing a serious political crisis triggered by mass resignations of legislators from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, Rosaiah said Home Minister P Chidambaram had only said that the process for formation of Telangana state would be initiated.

"I have not received any written orders to move a resolution in the assembly. It is a process and it can't be done in one day," Rosaiah told reporters, reiterating that such a resolution can be moved only after consensus.

He appealed to legislators of all the parties not to resign in anger.

"All parties should cooperate to ensure that the administration does not come to a standstill and the development continues," he said.

To a query, he said his government had not been reduced to minority as the resignations of the legislators were not yet accepted by the Speaker.

As many as 130 legislators of the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) have submitted their resignations to the speaker to protest the decision to carve Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh.

Rosaiah said there was also a proposal to revive the legislature committee to look into the demand for separate Telangana state and related issues.

"We support the formation of Telangana. The state government should go ahead despite the resignation of MLAs. RJD supports the formation of smaller states and I feel the Government should consider formation of Bundelkhand and Purvanchal" — RJD leader Lalu Prasad to CNN-IBN

In February, then chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy formed a legislature committee headed by Rosaiah, who was then the finance minister.

However, the main Opposition TDP, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and others had refused to be part of it saying it was pre-poll gimmick.

After the Congress retained power, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had told the Assembly in June that the panel would be reconstituted.

Voicing concern over the protests and violence in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, which oppose the break of Andhra Pradesh, Rosaiah appealed for calm.

"All especially youth and students should be restraint. If there any grievances they can bring the same to the notice of the government," he said.

"I am doubtful of a resolution in the Andhra Assembly and intentions of the Central Government because they have not taken Parliament into confidence despite my insistence that the Home Minister and the Prime Minister come to Parliament and share the plan. Secondly, they haven't annouced any roadmap. The information that is available suggests that they haven't done their homework, they haven't discussed it with their MPs and MLAs before making an annoucement" — BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu to CNN-IBN
