New Delhi: Pointing out that a resurgence was underway in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday sought continued Central assistance and higher allocation to the state in the 12th Five Year Plan, particularly in the infrastructure and farm sectors.

Kumar made the request during a meeting with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, citing the development deficit in the state.

In a memorandum submitted to Mukherjee, the Chief Minister urged him to continue the Special Assistance to Bihar under Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) during 12th Plan.

This assistance has proved very useful in covering infrastructure gaps in power, road communication and irrigation, Kumar told Mukherjee.

He also suggested that Union and the state government identify major infrastructure schemes for implementation to meet the infrastructure needs of the state.

Kumar said his government had prepared a roadmap for agricultural development of the state in view of the region being considered as the destination for the second green revolution.

He sought the support of the Finance Minister for higher central allocation in agricultural sector.
