New Delhi: After the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh got a bolt from the blue following the resignation of four Rashtriya Lok Dal members, a session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly has been convened on January 15 for a possible trial of strength of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
UP Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey made the announcement shortly after Yadav held an emergency meeting of the state Cabinet.
However, the Speaker maintained the two happenings were not connected. "The decision to convene a session for a day has nothing to do with the Cabinet meeting," he was quoted as saying by PTI.
The Chief Minister was also authorised by the Cabinet to take any decision in view of the emerging political situation, but declined to field any more questions.
During the last sitting of the House which adjourned on December 3, Yadav had got a vote of account passed for six months which he said amounted to a vote of confidence in his government.
