With the government starting the winter session on an aggressive note by targeting the Congress party from the onset, the former hit back on Friday, accusing the Narendra Modi government of intolerance and rewriting the history.
Attacking the BJP-led NDA government in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "How is it possible that you talk about Constitution and not mention its objectives and the contribution of India's first Prime Minister of Jawaharlal Nehru?"
"This is intolerance that BJP is not able to recognise the contribution of the first Prime Minister of India," said Azad.
The Congress leader further alleged that "intolerance is being manufactured by the ruling party".
He said, "The intolerance is being manufactured by the government itself. If at the top, the government cannot tolerance, it is obvious that it will have a trickling effect in the country."
"Congress does not manufacture hatred, that is not our ideology," said Azad, claiming that the atmosphere in the country in last one and a half years is against the Constitution of India.
"Power is like a tree laden with fruits which should bend, instead the government is looking towards the sky."
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, the Congress leader questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the loopholes in passing orders and notifications by various ministries, saying business of allocation norms were being violated by the government.
The Congress also accused the government of resorting to "divide and rule" policy.
