New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday held separate meetings and took stock of the Delhi polls, as the party exuded confidence of forming a government in Delhi despite exit polls favouring Aam Aadmi Party.
"Exit polls are there, but we know the ground realities. Our workers have worked hard through the day and are witness to people supporting BJP in large numbers. Voters have cast their ballot in record numbers for BJP. Wait till February 10, BJP will win and form the government. BJP will get a clear majority," Union Minister Ananth Kumar said.
He said this after a meeting of top party leaders with Shah at the party headquarters. Those who participated in the meeting included Union ministers JP Nadda, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Birender Singh and Jitendra Singh, all of whom were given the charge of a cluster of Assembly seats.
Prior to this meeting, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with the party's core group that included Amit Shah and Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari, besides BJP general secretary (Organisation) Ram Lal and took stock of Delhi polls and discussed the political situation in Bihar.
The meeting lasted almost three hours, where the outcome of various exit polls that predicted a victory for AAP were also discussed.
Sources said Modi took stock of the polling pattern in Delhi Assembly polls and discussed the party's prospects. BJP is confident of bagging a majority to form its government in Delhi, after a high-decibel campaign in the national capital where the Prime Minister addressed four rallies and the party put in all its might to take on Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party.
Modi is also learnt to have discussed the emerging political situation in Bihar where the party is keen to wrest power.
While the party leaders did not trash exit polls, they felt the party would form its government. Sources say the party feels there are some seats which are very close.
