Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Supremo Mayawati will be on a one-day tour to Gujarat and will be addressing a gathering at Racecourse Ground, Ramesh Pareskh Rangdarshan Maidan in Rajkot on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav reached Gujarat on Monday to campaign for the upcoming elections.
The BSP has decided to contest Gujarat elections on its own after alliance talks with the Congress fell through.
Mayawati had recently announced that she was in favour of an alliance with the Congress in the Himachal and Gujarat Assembly elections and had demanded the seats lost by Congress, but the Congress did not show any interest then.
Mayawati, in a statement, had said, “In Gujarat, the BSP wanted just 25 seats from Congress, which it had lost in the last elections, but they refused to oblige. Similarly, we demanded 10 seats in Himachal Pradesh poll which was again turned down.”
She even went ahead and also stated that, “BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra, who initiated discussions with Congress leaders Ahmed Patel and Ghulam Nabi Azad, was frustrated with their attitude. Hence, we have now decided that BSP will go it alone in future polls.”
However, after winning two mayoral seats in Uttar Pradesh the morale of BSP cadre and Mayawati seems to have gone up. It is expected that Mayawati, especially in Rajkot, will target the BJP only. It is believed that she could attack the BJP on the issue of EVMs, demonetisation, GST, along with law and order. On the issue of EVM, Mayawati had recently said that if the Election Commission holds the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections through the ballot paper, then BJP will not be able to win the elections.
Yadav already reached Gujarat on Monday to canvass for votes as his party is contesting on five seats in Gujarat. Akhilesh will be holding first public meeting in Dwarka on Monday, post which he will be addressing a gathering in Jamjodhpur on Tuesday, followed by a public meeting at Thoraji in Uplait. The last public gathering addressed by Yadav will be in Mandvi which falls in the Mudra Assembly seat.
