Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday expanded her five-month-old government by inducting six new ministers into her cabinet that raised its strength to 54.

Four cabinet ministers and two ministers of state were sworn in by Governor T V Rajeswar at the Raj Bhavan in Lucknow. It was the second expansion since Mayawati assumed charge from Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The new cabinet ministers are Nand Gopal Gupta, K K Gautam, Chandrika Ram Yadav and Ashok Kumar while the two ministers of state are Bhagwati Sagar and Jaiveer Singh.

The ministers of state who were elevated to cabinet ranks are Ranganath Mishra, Anant Kumar Mishra, Badshah Singh and Abdul Mannan.

A cabinet minister, Dr Sudhir Goel, had resigned following ill health. He had said he would now work for the organisation.

Before the two resignations, the Mayawati ministry had 50 members, including herself. As per a recent constitutional amendment, she can have a maximum of 60 members in her council of ministers. This was the third expansion of the UP ministry.
