LS polls: BJP finalises seat-sharing pact with AGP
Out of the 14 LS seats in the House, BJP and AGP have two members each.

New Delhi: BJP has finalised its seat-sharing pact with Asom Gana Parishad for 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam with the saffron party agreeing to field candidates in seven seats.

"The AGP has reached an agreement with the BJP on 13 Lok Sabha constituencies out of 14 in Assam. Accordingly, the AGP will fight in six constituencies while the BJP in seven," AGP General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member Birendra Prasad Baishya said.

The agreement was finalised at a meeting between the top BJP leadership, led by President Rajnath Singh, and AGP, headed by its President Chandra Mohan Patowary.

However, the parties have failed to reach a consensus on the prestigious Guwahati seat with both AGP and BJP claiming stake on it.

"We will meet again in the first week of February to take a final call on Guwahati seat," Baishya said.

The BJP will field candidates in Nagaon, Mangaldoi, Silchar, Karimganj, Jorhat, Dhubri and Diphu constituencies while the regional party will contest in Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Kaliabor, Barpeta and Kokrajhar seats.

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats from Assam in the House, both BJP and AGP have two members each. Congress has nine MPs and one seat is held by an independent.
