Live: Lok Sabha passes the crucial Pension Bill

New Delhi: 6:05 pm: The Lok Sabha has passed the crucial Pension Bill.

5:15 pm: While talking on the Pension Bill in Lok Sabha, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said 28 states have agreed to join the new pension scheme. "We have accepted all recommendations except one," he added.

5:10 pm: Jairam Ramesh has moves the Land Bill for passing in Rajya Sabha.

4:33 pm: Hitting out at the government over the missing coal files, senior CPI leader Sitaram Yechury in Lok Sabha said, "We want to know why FIR was not registered in the missing coal files case."

4:17 pm: Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said the government has to respond on how it will move ahead with the procedure pertaining to the investigation relating to the missing coal files.

2:45 pm: JDU leader Sharad Yadav said that the Coal Minister changed his statements on missing coal files and the Prime Minister gave a statement which did not have any details of the files that are missing. "Why is the government not transparent," he asked.

2:30 pm: Sushma Swaraj blames the involvement of top government officials in the coalgate scam. "The first question that i want to ask the Prime Minister is the same as the Supreme Court asked the government that why has no FIR been lodged. It should be lodged and if no FIR is lodged then the conscience of the government will be under question," she said.

2:17 pm: It is likely that Parliament deadlock might be able to end as sources say that Sushma Swaraj and LK Advani will be allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha while Arun Jaitely will be allowed to speak in Rajya Sabha over the missing coal files. It is expected that the bills will be taken up for discussion thereafter.

2:00 pm: Both Houses of Parliament have been adjourned yet again after the MPs refuse to relent over the missing coal files.

1:56 pm: Sources say that the BJP has objected to the Speaker for allowing the discussion on Pensions Bill despite din in the House. Sources also say that the BJP is not in favour of extending Monsoon session of Parliament.

1:40 pm: After the meeting with the BJP leaders, Kamal Nath said that all options are open including an extension of the Monsoon session.

1:20 pm: UPA is trying to have a dialogue yet again with the BJP as the meeting of the PM with the BJP leaders on Tuesday failed to end Parliament logjam. P Chidambaram and Kamalnath are meeting BJP leaders LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad in Advani's room in Parliament. The government is keen to ensure passage of the Pensions Bill while the BJP is adamant on getting an FIR registered in missing coal files case.

1:19 pm: The Congress has issued a whip on its MPs to be present in the House at 2 pm for the discussion over the Pensions Bill in Lok Sabha.

12:58 pm: Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and Finance Minister Chidambaram approached the SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav requesting him for his support over the bill. It is believed to be a strategy by the government that even if the BJP doesn't allow normalcy they will push for voting on the bill.

12:50 pm: Some parties like the Trinamool Congress are saying that important bills like the Pensions Bill cannot be passed in din. TMC MP Dinesh Trivedi has written to the Speaker in Lok Sabha that the RTI amendment bill shouldn't be passed in din and that there should be a division.

12:48 pm: The Samajwadi Party has said that they won't support the Pensions Bill. The government seems to be determined to push the bill as despite the BJP MPs moving to the well, the discussions continued to take place.

12:28 pm: The Lok Sabha is debating the Pension Bill even as the Opposition is shouting slogans over missing coal files.

11: 30 am: Speaking on the upheaval in Syria, senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh said that the civil war is extremely uncivil."The threat of attack on Syria by Western countries has been there. The situation in Syria is of great concern. It should be unacceptable to India that the world across takes a stand against Syria. Syria is our neighbour and the west has no authority to take action against any country what so ever, he said.

11:18 am : Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 12 pm after the MPs created uproar over quota. The issue of Gujarat CM's resignation and missing coal files was also raised in the House.

11:15 am: CPM leader Basudeb Acharya said that the prices of all essential commodities are rising and the inflation has crossed 10 per cent. He demanded a rollback in the fuel prices terming the prices beyond the capacity of the common man. "This time increase of petrol price is almost Rs 3, there has been an increase in petrol and diesel prices almost 6 times this year. Reduce the tax by 10 per cent and roll back petrol and diesel price hike," he said.

11:07 am: BJP MP Ananth Kumar raised the issue of rising fuel prices and blamed the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for the mismanagemnet of the economy. "Unfortunate that the UPA govt under Congress is raising the petrol and diesel prices every day," he said.

11:00 am: As soon as the proceedings of the Lok Sabha started, uproar has been created over the missing coal files.

The dinner diplomacy between the Prime Minister and the BJP leaders does not seem to have an effect as the deadlock continues in Parliament. The BJP has filed two adjournment motions on Wednesday. BJP MP Ananth Kumar gave an adjournment motion over the fuel price hike while another BJP MP Hansraj Ahir has filed an adjournment motion over the coalgate issue.

There are crucial bills pending in Parliament which are due to be to be taken up in the remaining three days of the monsoon session. The Pension Bill which will allow 49 per cent FDI in the pension and insurance sector is up for debate. The bill is expected to make available easy funds for government as well as give a message to the investors that the government is on the pro-reforms track.

The amendment to Right to Information Act which seeks to keep political parties out of the ambit of RTI which all major parties have favoured is also to be taken up. The government's Land Bill is also pending for discussion in the Rajya Sabha after being passed by the Lok Sabha.
