Srinagar: Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Geelani was on critical of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon for not mentioning the Kashmir issue in his speech at the world body and termed it as "very shocking".

"We had pinned hope that his Excellency will make a reference to Kashmir issue during his official speech. It is highly disheartening and unfortunate,"Geelani said in a statement.

He saidit is "very shocking"that while referring to conflicting zones in world, the UN chiefdid not make any mention of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Kashmir remains a long-pending issue and UN stands accountable and answerable as to why it ignores and shuts its eyes from this issue which tops the UN agenda since 1947," the Hurriyat hawk said.

He said despite more than 18 resolutions passed in favour of Kashmir, "we as a nation fail to understand why this august House can't fulfill its own commitment.
