The I-T department is expected to ask the Gandhis to pay the penalty on the 'income' they earned from the transfer of shares of Associated Journal Ltd to Young India Ltd.
The Income Tax department is likely to serve notices to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, seeking a penalty of Rs 1300 crore.
According to The Indian Express, the I-T department is expected to ask the Gandhis to pay the penalty on the 'income' they earned from the transfer of shares of Associated Journal Ltd to Young India Ltd.
This comes even as both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are reportedly abroad.
The move of the Income Tax department comes on a complaint from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy.
Swamy had filed a case alleging cheating and misappropriation of funds by the Congress leaders in the acquisition of National Herald by Young India Ltd.
