I have not understood the N-deal, says rebel SP MP
Ahmed, an MP from Phulpur, is out of jail to vote on the confidence motion.

New Delhi: Amid all the hullabaloo over the Indo-US nuclear deal, a rebel Samajwadi Party MP had his own reasons for voting against the Government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

"I have not understood what the deal is all about. Though I listened very attentively to the debate throughout on Tuesday, I could not make any head or tail out of it," Ateeq Ahmed made a candid admission before the media.

Ahmed, an MP from Phulpur, is out of jail to vote on the confidence motion moved by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday.

Mobbed by reporters at Parliament this morning, he said, "I will definitely vote against the government. If I, being a Member of Parliament, could not understand anything about the nuclear deal, then how can the people of the country follow it".

The country needs more time to understand the deal and there was no need for the Government to make such haste, he argued.

UPA's loss because of Ahmed’s defection was made up by suspended BJP MP from Gujarat Somabhai Patel, who said that he has made up his mind to vote for the Government.

Declaring his support to the ruling UPA, he claimed that "no force or incentive" can bring him back to the party-fold.

Congress MP from Punjab, Gurjeet Singh Rana criticized the Akali Dal for its decision to vote against the government.

"Akali Dal has always dabbled in negative politics," he said as he entered Parliament, adding that the nuclear deal is good for the country.
