Hold talks with banking unions: Karuna to Centre
Party chief M Karunanidhi said the unions were protesting against Banking Laws Amendment Bill and outsourcing of jobs among others.

Chennai: Key UPA partner DMK on Thursday requested the Centre to hold talks with the agitating bank unions to resolve the issues amicably as their two-day nation-wide strike severely affected banking operations.

Party chief M Karunanidhi said the unions were protesting against Banking Laws Amendment Bill and outsourcing of jobs among others.

"I request the Central government to hold talks with the representattives of the associations to ensure their protest doesn't continue," he said responding to a set of questions in party mouthpiece 'Murasoli.'

To a question on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, he recalled the various steps taken when his government was in power at the state such as taking up the matter with Centre besides organising various pro-Tamil initiatives like a massive human chain in chennai.

Responding to criticism from some quarters, he asked how could his government resigning in protest on the issue bring about a ceasefire in the neighbouring country though he claimed his earlier governments had been dismissed twice in connection with the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
