Gorkhaland bill to be tabled in WB Assembly
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has expressed unhappiness with the exclusion of certain powers in the draft bill.

Kolkata: The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Bill will be placed for discussion in the West Bengal Assembly on Friday even as the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has expressed its unhappiness with the exclusion of certain powers including the transfer of financial and administrative powers in the draft bill.

The West Bengal cabinet on Thursday, endorsed the GTA Bill seeking more autonomy for the body, ahead of its tabling in the Assembly.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee told mediapersons that the bill was endorsed by the cabinet at its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Asked if the bill would incorporate the amendments suggested by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, Chatterjee said "the cabinet has endorsed whatever the contents of the bill are".

GJM members on Thursday met Mamata with a list of changes to the proposed law claiming the draft was different from what was promised in the July 18 declaration.

The GJM team, including general secretary Roshan Giri and party MLA Harka Bahadur Chettri, met Banerjee,Chatterjee and Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh to place their demands and objections to the GTA Bill, 2011 scheduled to be tabled in the state Assembly on Friday.
