Lucknow: As the power tussle continues in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday slammed B S Yeddyurappa’s oath taking as an “attack on democracy”.
Yeddyurappa was invited by Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala a day ago to form the government and prove majority within 15 days, following which he was sworn in as the chief minister on Thursday morning.
Hitting out at BJP in a poetic style over Yeddyurappa’s oath taking despite Supreme Court posting the matter for hearing for Friday, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Today oath of democracy will be taken, Today once more it will be killed, Today once again the power of government will be shown, Today once more conscious will be up for sale, Today the freedom will be dead a little more.”

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati also termed the move as a conspiracy to destroy the constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
“It is a conspiracy to destroy the constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, since they (BJP) came to power they have been misusing government machinery, thereby attacking democracy,” she said in a statement.
The Supreme Court refused to stay BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa's swearing-in as Karnataka Chief Minister after a rare pre-dawn hearing which saw the Congress-JD (S) combine making a last-ditch attempt to stall the saffron party's surge in the southern state.
The apex court, which commenced the hearing at 2.11 AM and ended at 5.28 AM, however made it clear that the swearing-in and the government formation in the state would be subject to the final outcome of the case before it.
The top court also issued notices to Karnataka government and Yeddyurappa seeking their replies on the plea filed by Congress-JD (S) combine and posted the matter for hearing on Friday.
