DMK's money won in Tirumangalam: Jaya
The DMK has won the Tirumangalam by-elections by a whopping 40,000 votes.

Chennai: AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa on Monday said the 'money and goonda power' of ruling DMK, coupled with "misuse" of official machinery won and democracy lost in the Tirumanglam assembly bypoll, in which her party was defeated by over 39,000 votes.

In a statement here, she alleged the Election Commission's directive that all outsiders should be evicted from the constituency after the campaign ended was flouted by the officials and the DMK Ministers were "freely distributing" money and gold coins to voters.

Soon after the polling was over, DMK leaders M Karunanidhi and M K Azhagiri had asserted that their party would win by a margin of over 30,000 votes and this made people aware of how the election was conducted there.

"Elections are just a formality in the state as long as the DMK continued in power. There is no use for instructions by the Election Commission as the state police do not implement them. Instead of conducting the elections, it can be announced that the DMK is the winner."

"It will avoid the trouble of campaigning for the opposition," she said.
