Delhi budget session from today, Kejriwal government may double allocation for education
The increase in proposed allocation will be in line with the AAP's political promises to upgrade education system in the national capital.

New Delhi: The Budget session of the Delhi Assembly will start on Tuesday with the economic survey likely to be tabled in the House. The state Budget for the remaining nine months of the current financial year is likely to be presented on June 26.

In order to improve education infrastructure, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government may double the fund allocation for education sector in its first budget. According to officials, the allocation for education sector will be highest in 22 years.

In the run up to Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised to construct 500 new schools and 20 colleges in the national capital. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also Education Minister, has also advocated improving teaching system in government schools.

The AAP government has also promised to provide education loan of up to Rs 10 lakh to students. "The AAP Government wants to improve education infrastructure and in view this, more fund allocation for education is needed," said a government official.

The increase in proposed allocation will be in line with the AAP's political promises to upgrade education system in the national capital. Sources said that health sector is also likely to see around 40 per cent increase in allocation in the budget which will be tabled on June 25 in the Assembly.

The question hour in the six-day long Budget session of the Delhi Assembly, will be held on two days only due to delay in issuing the notification for the session. Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel accepted that there was a delay in issuing the notification of Budget session due to which there was lack of time to hold question hour.

Earlier, one hour on each day of the session was dedicated to question hour.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already announced that it will stage demonstrations outside the Assembly on Tuesday against the Delhi government's failures. The BJP will also target the AAP government over various issues including the fake degree row involving former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar.
