Defence Ministry will issue notification to clarify modalities of OROP after Bihar polls: sources
The voting for the multi-phased elections for the 243-member Assembly will be over on November 5 and results will be declared on November 8.

New Delhi: In a good news for the defence veterans, the Defence Ministry will issue a long awaited notification to clarify the modalities of One Rank One Pension scheme after Bihar Assembly elections, said sources on Monday.

The notification is set to be issued before Diwali. The notification was scuttled by the Election Commission keeping in mind the five-phased Bihar polls.

The voting for the multi-phased elections for the 243-member Assembly will be over on November 5 and results will be declared on November 8.

Meanwhile, the protesting ex-servicemen on Sunday in a letter signed in blood demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for early implementation of the One Rank One Pension scheme.

On the 133rd day of their relay hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, the veterans said that the announcement made by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on September 5 regarding the implementation of OROP had "seven serious shortcomings".

If implemented without the removal of the shortcomings, it will kill the definition of OROP, the letter claimed. The letter further accused Parrikar of "changing the goalpost" every now and then.

The protesting veterans asked the Prime Minister to issue notification to implement OROP scheme at the earliest. Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement spokesperson Colonel (retd) Anil Kaul said the letter was signed in blood by around 200 general officers and others.
