CPI, CPI-M resolve deadlock over Ponnani seat
CPI's D Raja met CPI-M leader Prakash Karat to resolve the issue.

New Delhi: The crisis in the Left Democratic Fund (LDF) in Kerala over the candidature for the Ponnani seat is almost resolved.

Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary D Raja met Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on Friday evening to resolve the deadlock over the seat.

Sources say that the CPI-M will not insist on Hussain K Randathani being party's candidate from Ponnani and the CPI on its part will not insist on CH Kunjambu as the candidate.

A hunt is now on for a new candidate with sources saying film director Kamal too is in the reckoning.

Union Minister of State External Affairs E Ahamed of the Muslim League Kerala State Committee is the sitting MP from Ponnani.

Earlier on Friday, the CPI Kerala unit had taken a tough stand saying it will put up candidates in all seat in the state if the CPI-M did not let it put up a candidate of its choice in Ponnani.
