Urging the Shiv Sena to not support her candidature, Uma Bharti, in a letter to Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said his support to Patil was indicated in a news channel report.

She added that support to Patil would harm the cause of Hindutva, and explained that Patil's nomination was part of a conspiracy by missionaries promoting religious conversion in the country.

She furthur complained that even though Patil hailed from Maharashtra, she as Governor had refused to give accent to a Rajasthan government's bill aimed at checking religious conversion.
