New Delhi: Bringing embarrassment for the Congress, Senior State Congress Leader and State Health Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Shyam Lal Sharma demanded 'azadi' for Kashmir. Sharma said that giving 'azadi' or freedom to Kashmir is the only solution to the Kashmir crisis.

While speaking at a public rally, at a meeting that was chaired by J&K Cong president Saifuddin Soz in Kathua district, Sharma said, "If you want to develop this province then Kashmir should be given freedom and its property."

He also said that Jammu should be made a separate state and Ladakh, a Union Territory.

These remarks could be the one of the most controversial statements by a Congress leader in the J&K government. Ironically, the Congress had strongly criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah when he said in the Assembly that the state has merely acceded and not merged with India.
