Congress goes hi-tech, vans and videos to showcase Delhi's development to woo voters
The party has roped in college students in large numbers to accompany the campaign vans.

New Delhi: With filing of nomination papers for Delhi Assembly elections over, the Congress has hit the ground with full force and has become very aggressive in its election campaign. Experimenting with technology, the Congress will flag off 45 vans having LED screens at 3 PM on Thursday.

These vans will cover all 70 constituencies of Delhi highlighting the work done by Congress during its 15 years rule in the national capital.

The vans with images of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh Lovely carry the message, "Toot gayi vikas ki dor, chalo chale Congress ki aur ", "Bharosa hai naam ka Congress ke kaam ka".

A 3-minute video will feature former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, the face of the party till December 2013. It will highlight the Delhi metro, the swanky domestic airport and other development works undertaken by the party from 1998 to 2013.

Interestingly, the man behind the idea, Arvinder Singh Lovely, will not be fighting the elections and instead he would be campaigning for the party across the city.

The party has roped in college students in large numbers to accompany the vans. "We all are college students and are working on this project. It is not very hard to operate," says Karan, a Delhi University student.

The students are also working as volunteers and have been trained to work on the project. "We were trained by Rehan and it was a five-six day process. We will be working till the campaigning is over," says Abhishek from Indraprastha University.

The idea is similar to Bharatiya Janata Party's raths which are already doing the rounds of the city. The BJP is already reaching out to the people through the Internet, radio and other hi-tech media among others.
