He also charged Trinamool with corruption and inefficiency in running panchayats.

Dhola: Charging Trinamool Congress with corruption and inefficiency in running panchayats under its control, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday alleged the party was more interested in unleashing violence than working for the people.

"I will like to urge those who had voted for Trinamool Congress in Panchayat elections to take note of its misdeeds in the local bodies which are plagued by rampant corruption particularly in South 24-Parganas district," Bhattacharjee told a rally in Dhola.

He said the Left Front government had introduced the Panchayat system in the state and the poor, landless farmers and villagers had been given 'pattas' (ownership) of lands since 1977.

The Chief Minister urged the villagers not to allow the Trinamool to destroy the Panchayat system and force the party to work.

"The Trinamool Congress is hell bent on creating total lawlessness all over the state and undoing all efforts by the state government to develop industry and generate jobs," he said.

Alleging a nexus between the Trinamool and Maoists, the Chief Minister said if the party was further strengthened it would spell doom for the entire state.

"The pace of development, industrial progress, agricultural production, education and activities in all sectors will come to a grinding halt if the Trinamool comes to power," he said.

Training his gun on the Congress on the price rise front, Bhattarcharjee said their demand to the Centre to fix prices of 14 essential commodities was ignored.

He said the Centre should be forced to take concrete steps to curb price rise, adding "the agitation over the issue should be taken to Delhi".

Criticising the Centre for not releasing wheat and rice stored in FCI godowns for a long time despite the Supreme Court directive, the Chief Minister alleged the UPA government had delved deep in corruption in the telecom scam running into Rs 1.76 lakh crore.

"This amount can well be spent on opening more shops under the Public Distribution System all over the country," he said.
