Dehradun: Infuriated over the alleged murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Balwant Singh Kanyal, a mob on Sunday set ablaze Kaladhungi police station in Uttarakhand.
Kanyal was allegedly shot dead by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and history-sheeter Neeraj Tiwari inside the Kaladhungi police station.
Police have arrested Tiwari, who is accused of initiating a fight with Kanyal and then allegedly murdering him.
The mob also beat up several policemen before setting the police station on fire.
The injured policemen have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
A couple of police rifles are also reportedly missing from the station.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has ordered the suspension of the policemen who were present at the time of Kanyal’s murder in the station on Saturday night.
Principal Home Secretary Subhash Kumar said that the CM has taken a serious note of the incident and asked all police stations and posts in the area to be vigilant.
