Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday sought from the Central government additional companies of paramilitary forces to restore peace and normalcy in the troubled areas along Assam-Nagaland border.
When Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called Gogoi to discuss the issue, the chief minister sought from him additional companies of paramilitary forces to restore normalcy in the affected areas, an official release said.
Gogoi also apprised Singh of the latest situation and the steps taken by the state government to control the situation. Stating that priority should be to restore peace and to send back the displaced people to their homes, the chief minister said he was closely monitoring the situation.
He assured Singh that the state government would extend all help to restore peace along the inter-state border.
