Andhra bifurcation: Sushil Kumar Shinde voices confidence over passage of Telangana bill

The government will place the Telangana bill in Parliament as soon as it receives it from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Friday said, expressing confidence that it will be passed.

"I am very much confident that the bill will be passed. The President of India has referred it to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. We are awaiting the report. "Once the bill comes to us, we will place it before Parliament," he said, while replying to a question on creation of separate Telangana during his monthly press conference in New Delhi.

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill or the Telangana bill has been approved by the Union Cabinet and sent to Andhra Pradesh Assembly for approval.

On clashes in areas along the Assam-Nagaland border, the Home Minister said additional forces will be provided to the states if there is a requirement. He said that while he agrees that the law and order in these areas is "not good", the situation is "under control". Shinde said the recovery of nine bodies from along the border region of the two states will also be investigated.

Nine people--eight labourers and one student leader-- were brutally killed and buried in Nagaland's commercial hub Dimapur. The victims were blindfolded with hands tied and shot at from close range and the corpses were stacked atop each other.
