In the latest development over the standoff between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the Delhi Police over an alleged attack on its leader Dilip Pandey, the party has taken up the issue with the Centre.
A delegation of AAP leaders on Thursday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Parliament over the alleged attack on Pandey and other issues over which the state government is at loggerheads with the Delhi Police.
The AAP delegation also gave Rajnath Singh a copy of the video of a Delhi police bus losing control while Dilip Pandey was addressing media. Pandey has alleged that the bus tried to run him over.
"We handed the Home Minister the video proof and a letter regarding what happened with Dilip Pandey. He said he was aware of the issue," said AAP leader Kumar Vishwas. He further said that they also raised the issue of Meenakshi murder case with the Home Minister, adding that the people of Delhi were "doubting the role of Delhi police.
Reacting to the allegations of the AAP government, Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi on Wednesday said that the party was getting paranoid.
The incident happened on Tuesday night when Pandey was talking to media over police action on AAP volunteers at Anand Parbat.
Pandey has filed a written complaint at the Rajinder Nagar police station in this regard.
However, sources in Delhi Police have claimed that the handbrake on the bus malfunctioned leading to the loss of control.
Rubbishing the claims of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's party, Delhi Police chief BS Bassi said that the party "should not be afraid or get paranoid". Asserting that the police was not against AAP leaders, Bassi said that the complaint is being taken seriously and action would be taken if need be.
