New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing political battle over alleged financial irregularities in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Monday defended senior party leader Arun Jaitley saying the Finance Minister has done nothing wrong. Shah accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of politicising the issue.
"Jaitley has been an example for politicians, the party backs him and the people are also with him. If AAP thinks this will malign his image then they are mistaken," he said.
His reactions came after AAP leaders attacked Jaitley alleging financial irregularities in the DDCA.
Jaitley, too, took on the AAP and filed Rs 10 crore civil defamation case in the Delhi High Court against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and 5 other leaders for alleged false statements against him and his family members. He also field a criminal defamation suit against the AAP leaders in the Patiala House Court.
Apart from Kejriwal, other AAP leaders who have been named in the suit are Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee.
However, Delhi Chief Minsiter and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said Jaitley cannot intimidate him and his party by filing a court case.
"Jaitley cannot intimidate us with court case. We will continue our fight against corruption," Kejriwal tweeted.
"Jaitleyji should cooperate with the Commission of Enquiry and prove his innocence there," he said. The chief minister announced the Commission of Enquiry on Sunday.
Rubbishing the charges against him, the Finance Minister called the charges against him baseless and wrong. "SFIO (Serious Fraud Investigation Office) has accepted the expenditure by DDCA on building new stadium and found nothing wrong," he said.
