Lalu Prasad has come under attack from various corners as his eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav is the health minister of the state

Patna: Defying all official norms, a team of government doctors were posted at the residence of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for about eight days.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has lashed out at the Yadav family and alleged that it has been in habit of the Yadavs to misuse power. Lalu Prasad has come under attack from various corners as his eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav is the health minister of the state.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi said that deputing three doctors and two nurses of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) for personal caretaking is a gross offence and misuse of official power.

“Tej Pratap is the chairman of the governing body of IGIMS. He must have pressed the hospital administration for deputing doctors at his father’s residence. Doesn’t he know that patients are dying at government hospitals due to lack of doctors? Patients are in queue and doctors are attending the Health Minister’s family,” he said.

News18 has a copy of the letter signed by the IGIMS superintendent, directing a team of doctors to return back from the RJD leader’s house and report back to their respective departments.

The JDU, which is heading the ruling alliance with the RJD and Congress, has distanced itself from the controversy surrounding Lalu’s family. JDU spokesman Rajeev Ranjan said that it was for Tej Pratap and his ministry to look into this matter. He declined to comment more on this.

On the other hand, the RJD has defended this decision further providing fodder to the opposition. Party spokesperson Shakti Yadav said that as chairman of the IGIMS board, Tej Pratap can request the services of the doctors. But he could not show any such request letter.

RJD leaders also were reluctant to disclose details of the patient in the family.

IGIMS Director NR Vishwas told News18 that he was fed up of favour requests from politicians and ministers. He even pleaded with the media to do something which could stop this menace.

As per the letter issued by the IGIMS, the below mentioned doctors and nurses were posted at the residence of Lalu Prasad Yadav:

- Dr (Prof.) Naresh Kumar – HOD (General Medicine)

- Dr Krishna Gopal – Associate Superintendent

- Dr Aman Kumar – Deputy Superintendent

- Anil Saini – Staff Nurse (CCU)

- Vikram Charan – Staff Nurse (OT)
