2G verdict a victory of the truth: Congress
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said Subramanian Swamy is doing all these to catch attention.

New Delhi: After the CBI trial court on Saturday dismissed Subramanian Swamy's plea to make Home Minister P Chidambaram co-accused in the 2G spectrum scam case, a relieved Congress said it's a victory of the truth.

"This is a victory of the truth," said Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni.

Welcoming the court order on Chidamabarm. Finance Minister Pranab Mukharjee said, "Someone was unfairly persecuted. Even in the Supreme Court order, it was never mentioned that Finance Minister's directive was ignored. Rather it was the Finance Ministry that was mentioned by the Supreme Court."

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal also said that he is not surprised by the trial court's verdict.

"This was something we always maintained. This is not something surprising" said Sibal.

"I am very disappointed how some leaders of the Opposition has been blaming us," added the Telecom Minister.

Admitting that the 2G trial court's verdict on Chidambaram is 'definitely a relief', Law Minister Salman Khurshid said, "There is no questionable dimension regarding Chidambaram's Role in 2G issue."

Minister of Corporate Affairs Veerapa Moily said, "This was expected, Subramanian Swamy has always been doing this. Now the prime minister should be complimented for mooting a transparent auction. We have already taken enough steps to fight corruption, we have not shielded anyone. It's now crystal clear that UPA is stern against corruption. Subramanian Swamy can go anywhere, we can't prevent him. As long as there are people like Subramanian Swamy anyone can be dragged to court."

Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna said, "We are naturally happy with the judgement. These were nothing but baseless allegations, and they can't stand under scrutiny under the court of law. Chidambaram stands vindicated."

Congress leader Sri Prakash Jaiswal said, "The BJP should apologise to the country for making all these allegations against the ministers and the Prime Minister of the country."

Ambika Soni also alleged that Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy is not serious about the 2G case and he is doing all these to catch attention.

"It's unfortunate that Swamy insisted on catching the attention. We have always been saying this for Chidambaram. The case went as we hoped it to be. We were positive that the court will not say anything against Chidambaram. No investigations ordered against Chidambaram, he is not being made an accused in the case," said Soni.

"We know Swamy very well, has he ever said anything that the court has taken seriously. He has always wanted attention," Soni added.
