The central government has approved a budget of more than Rs 1,313 crore to strengthen the power infrastructure in Noida. This has been allotted under the Restructured Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the central government. This scheme includes system upgrades, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) work and integration of smart technology.
The main function of the SCADA system is to monitor and control the power distribution network, which improves the overall efficiency of the network and increases the reliability and stability of the system. This system works on the basis of data received from substations.
These improvement works have been planned keeping in mind the possible increase in the city’s electricity demand in future and the condition of the old infrastructure. Under the project, new substations, distribution networks and transformers will be established and underground cables will be laid to strengthen the power infrastructure of the city.
The Noida Power Department had sent a proposal of Rs 1,633 crore to the Center for improvement work under RDSS. According to Rahul Dwivedi, Executive Director of REC Power Distribution Company Limited, on August 31, the Union Power Ministry has approved the detailed project report (DPR) submitted by Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) for the modernization of Noida’s distribution network.
In a meeting held on September 9, the monitoring committee of RDSS approved a budget of Rs 1,313.50 crore. This is now awaiting the approval of the state cabinet.
According to a Times of India report, PVVNL Chief Regional Engineer Harish Bansal said, “We have received a letter of approval for a budget of Rs 1,313.50 crore from the Union Power Ministry.”
Out of the approved amount, Rs 892.28 crore will be spent on system upgradation, Rs 396.38 crore on SCADA work and Rs 24.84 crore on integration of smart technology.
Bansal said that the tender process for these projects will start soon and it will take three to four months to complete. “We hope that the tenders will be finalized by January-February 2025 and after that the work will start,” he added.
